Starting out on the microwaves bands – Neil G4LDR
‘Starting Out on the Microwave Bands’ will provide basic information needed to understand the microwave bands and how to become operational on them.
Topics covered will include:
- What are the microwave bands
- Propagation properties and microwave beacons
- What classes of licence can use which microwave bands
- Equipment requirements including antennas and transverters
- Examples of typical equipment including simple wideband systems
- Operating on the microwave bands including satellites, contests and activity periods
- Resources to help you get going on the microwave bands
Those who become operational on the microwave bands will find there are plenty of opportunities to try the many aspects of this part of the hobby. These include operating portable from a hill top using relatively simple equipment; satellite operating; DXing; trying different operating modes including CW, voice, digital and even DATV; right through to probably the most challenging part of the hobby, moonbounce or EME.

Absage – Der 39.Bergheimer Amateurfunk-Flohmarkt findet leider nicht statt.
Bedingt durch Corona kann der 39. Bergheimer Amateurfunk-Flohmarkt auch am Ausweichtermin, dem 06.03.2021 nicht stattfinden.
Wir hoffen in 2022 wieder einen Flohmarkt in Bergheim durchführen zu können und bitten Besucher und Händler um Ihr Verständnis.
Für den 10. April 2021 war die fünfte Ausgabe des FUNK.TAGs in den Messehallen Kassel geplant.
Der DARC e.V. kommt nicht umhin, seine Erlebnismesse frühzeitig abzusagen. “Wir haben uns diese Entscheidung nicht
leicht gemacht, müssen sie aber jetzt treffen”, erklärt Christian Entsfellner, DL3MBG, die Absage. “Der Schutz unserer Mitglieder, Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter sowie aller Besucher und Aussteller hat oberste Priorität. Zudem müssen wir sorgsam mit den Mitgliedsbeiträgen umgehen. Hier fehlt uns einfach die Glaskugel, um bereits jetzt zu wissen, wie die Pandemie-Lage im Frühjahr aussieht”, führt der Vorsitzende weiter aus. In der DARC-Geschäftsstelle beträgt der Zeitraum der Planungs- und Umsetzungsphase im Veranstaltungsmanagement sechs Monate und mehr. Bei der Herbst-Mitgliederversammlung wurde in den Vorjahren bereits ein stimmiges Konzept präsentiert – bestehend aus Programm, Hallenplan und angemeldeten
Ausstellern. Ein Hinauszögern der Absage und weiteres Warten auf eine Verbesserung unserer Lage ist auch aus Kostengründen nicht möglich gewesen. Neben den regulären Kosten, unter anderem für Hallenmiete, Standausstattungen, Personal, Dienstleistungen, Werbemittel, würden für 2021 zusätzliche Kosten für ein umfangreiches Sicherheits- und Hygienekonzept auf
den DARC zukommen. So müsste beispielsweise eine weitere Halle angemietet werden, um die nötigen Abstände zu gewährleisten. Auch Sicherheitspersonal müsste gebucht werden, um für die Einhaltung der Vorschriften zu sorgen.
Diese zusätzlichen Kosten laufen den fehlenden Einnahmen entgegen, die sich bereits jetzt herauskristallisieren: Einige Aussteller haben im Vorfeld schon eine Absage für einen FUNK.TAG zu Corona-Zeiten gegeben. Und auch das
Vortragsprogramm könnte nicht stattfinden, da die Räume der Messe Kassel dies nicht hergeben. Über allen Bemühungen, eine solche Veranstaltung trotz der Pandemie-Lage stattfinden zu lassen, steht auch immer die Gefahr, dass
die zuständigen Behörden dem Veranstalter diesen Termin im Frühjahr kurzfristig absagen. Ein FUNK.TAG mit den notwendigen Abstandsregeln wäre auch kein FUNK.TAG im Sinne der Mitgliederpflege, die durch persönlichen
Kontakt und Nähe geprägt ist.

Bob takes a look at Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) from its start in the UK prior to World War 2 to the situation in 2021 where there is a worldwide structure, competition format and rules. It covers the legal impediments to running DF hunts using cars, the frequencies, competition formats and the equipment needed for 2021 ARDF.
There will then be a sequence of videos showing someone competing in a 144MHz event which shows not just the taking and plotting of bearings but the whole decision-making process that results in locating the hidden transmitters rapidly. It is the challenge of this process that can make ARDF so enjoyable. The webinar will also feature contributions from Kim Taylor, M0KNV giving the perspective of a regular Club member being talked into trying ARDF and from Flora Jolly who was persuaded to go out and try ARDF with her Dad David, M0JCO. The presentation wraps up with a review of ARDF coverage across the RSGB Regions and the steps currently being taken by the RSGB Board and the ARDF Committee to make provision for ARDF in all regions.
