FOSDEM is a two-day event organised by volunteers to promote the widespread use of free and open source software.
Usually taking place in the beautiful city of Brussels (Belgium), FOSDEM is widely recognised as the best such conference in Europe.
What is FOSDEM?
FOSDEM is a free and non-commercial event organised by the community for the community. The goal is to provide free and open source software developers and communities a place to meet to:
- get in touch with other developers and projects;
- be informed about the latest developments in the free software world;
- be informed about the latest developments in the open source world;
- attend interesting talks and presentations on various topics by project leaders and committers;
- to promote the development and benefits of free software and open source solutions.
Participation and attendance is totally free, though the organisers gratefully accept donations and sponsorship.
Developer rooms
The FOSDEM team feels it is very important for free and open source software developers around the world to be able to meet in “real life”.
To this end, we have set up developer rooms (devrooms) with network/internet connectivity and projectors where teams can meet and showcase their projects. Devrooms are a place for teams to discuss, hack and publicly present latest directions, lightning talks, news and discussions. We believe developers can benefit a lot from these meetings.

PE2KMV, Ronald, zal een voordracht geven over POCSAG.
(Post Office Code Standardisation Advisory Group)
Ronald gaat in die lezing eerst in op POCSAG in het algemeen en vervolgens op de werking en de structuur van DAPNET. Ingewikkeld is het niet maar je moet even door hebben hoe het precies in elkaar zit. Tot slot gaat hij in de lezing ook in op toepassingen.
Dat wordt weer een boeiende avond.

Thema avond “contesten”, aan de hand van foto’s van de spullen waarmee gecontest wordt: de shack, antennes, software, etc.

ON4RF, Filippe, komt ons wat meer uitleg geven over “BOS”. Dit staat voor “Belgium Outdoor Shack”.
Belgium Outdoor Shack (BOS) geeft een overzicht van bestaande Belgische Outdoor Award programma’s, zoals ONFF, BCA , Sota , BLH enz.

Marcel PA8MA uit Swalmen geeft een lezing over vliegtuigelektronica. Onderwerpen zoals het meten van afstanden in de lucht (DME, Distance Measuring Equipment) en het automatisch laten landen van een vliegtuig (ILS, Instrument Landing Systems) komen aan de orde. Marcel heeft een hele tijd gewerkt op het vliegveld in Beek als elektronicus en toen zelf metingen aan de apparatuur gedaan en afstellingen uitgevoerd.

Voor de lezing van april hebben we de medewerking van de leden nodig.
Wat hebben we de afgelopen 3 corona jaren allemaal gemaakt en gekocht? Waar ben je trots op, en hoe heb je het aangepakt? Frederik ON5IA zal deze informatie in een presentatie gieten die ook achteraf gedeeld zal worden.
Op dit moment staat de teller al op 7 projectjes en 5 interessante en soms ook verrassende aankopen.

Loek PE0MJX geeft een lezing over zijn zelfgebouwde antennetuner. Het gaat over de bouw van een QRO-antennetuner die in 2010 ontworpen is door Norbert Graupner (DL1SNG). De kit is uitverkocht bij Funkamateur, maar Loek heeft alle documenten en PCB’s van Norbert ontvangen, en kan daardoor met veel verstand van zaken over het project vertellen.
