Despite what many people think, building your own radio equipment is still a very popular aspect of amateur radio.
In fact there has never been a better time to do this, with readily accessible building blocks and high spec test equipment available at bargain basement prices, or, in the case of software, absolutely free.
This presentation covers the reasons why people homebrew radio equipment, share some ideas on how to get started and provides some examples of homebrew gear, and using hardware and software.

Deze avond zal Arjan Kievits een lezing verzorgen rond het thema Deep Space Communicatie.
Arjan is geen zendamateur maar wel werkzaam als technisch consultant Wi-Fi voor de grootzakelijke markt, heeft als hobby astronomie en is betrokken bij de sterrenwacht in Spijkenisse.
De lezing gaat over radiocommunicatie, maar dan net een beetje anders. Zo komt bijvoorbeeld aan bod hoe New Horizons zijn foto’s van Pluto naar Aarde heeft kunnen sturen. Maar ook hoe we nog steeds wat van de Voyagers horen.
Wat is dit allemaal en hoe kan dat nu? Om dat te begrijpen worden de basisbegrippen van radio-communicatie kort toegelicht, samen met een stukje digitale communicatie. Er komt wat techniek aan bod, we gaan ook nog een beetje rekenen. En er wordt een uitstapje naar Wi-Fi gemaakt, wat iedereen natuurlijk kent. Waarom? Tja, dat is nog even afwachten.
Starting out on the microwaves bands – Neil G4LDR
‘Starting Out on the Microwave Bands’ will provide basic information needed to understand the microwave bands and how to become operational on them.
Topics covered will include:
- What are the microwave bands
- Propagation properties and microwave beacons
- What classes of licence can use which microwave bands
- Equipment requirements including antennas and transverters
- Examples of typical equipment including simple wideband systems
- Operating on the microwave bands including satellites, contests and activity periods
- Resources to help you get going on the microwave bands
Those who become operational on the microwave bands will find there are plenty of opportunities to try the many aspects of this part of the hobby. These include operating portable from a hill top using relatively simple equipment; satellite operating; DXing; trying different operating modes including CW, voice, digital and even DATV; right through to probably the most challenging part of the hobby, moonbounce or EME.

Deze avond zal Mans PA0MBJ ons alles vertellen over twee van zijn bouwprojecten:
Een symmetrische antenne-tuner voor inverted V, met praktische tips hoe je de spoelen kan maken, en na een korte pauze een QRM-killer (met kit).
Mans is voorzitter van de VERON afdeling Wageningen. Dat is doorgaans een reisafstand die wat bezwaarlijk wordt voor een lezing in Schimmert. Maar via Jitsi moet dat goed te doen zijn. Mans is een verwoed knutselaar en heeft al over meerdere projecten publicaties geschreven en lezingen gegeven.

Ga op de avond van de lezing in een moderne webbrowser naar de url. NB dit is dezelfde url die ook voor de streaming van de zondagochtendronde wordt gebruikt. Op donderdag 18 februari 2021 organiseert de VERON PR-Commissie een online lezing.
Onderwerp:
Arduino voor de radio amateur. Cor PA0GTB heeft al meerdere artikelen in Electron geschreven over dit onderwerp. Cor neemt ons mee in de geheimen van de Arduino. Tijdens de lezing vertelt Cor wat een Arduino is, hoe en waarmee programmeer je deze en zal een aantal voorbeelden laten zien. Waaronder ook een project dat in Electron van maart zal verschijnen.
Wanneer:
De lezing wordt gegeven op donderdag 18 februari 2021 en begint op 20.00 uur en duurt ongeveer 60 tot 90 minuten.
Hoe:
VERON maakt gebruik van GoToMeeting. Via een Nieuwsbrief krijgen de personen die hebben ingeschreven een link toegestuurd. Indien u zich heeft uitgeschreven voor de Nieuwsbrief dan is het niet mogelijk om u een uitnodiging te sturen.
