43e Landelijke Ballonvossenjacht
De organisatie van de Ballonvossenjacht heeft dinsdagavond moeten besluiten dat de Ballonvossenjacht van zondag 19 september a.s. niet zal plaatsvinden. Afgelopen week werden zij geconfronteerd met gewijzigde polisvoorwaarden van de verzekeraar. Hierdoor is aansprakelijkheid voor de ballon met payload niet langer verzekerd, dit is voor de organisatie niet aanvaardbaar.
De afgelopen week is met alle mogelijke middelen geprobeerd een andere verzekeraar te vinden die de noodzakelijke dekking biedt. Dit is helaas niet gelukt waardoor de organisatie het geplande evenement nu moet annuleren.
Op dit moment wordt verder naar een oplossing gezocht. Alleen als deze oplossing spoedig gevonden wordt zal de 43e Ballonvossenjacht in 2021 alsnog op een latere datum plaatsvinden. Hierover zullen we in dat geval op onze website en de gebruikelijke media berichten.

Vrijwel iedere radio geïnteresseerde heeft wel van de Ballonvossenjacht gehoord. In haar inmiddels 42-jarige bestaan hebben héél wat radiozendamateurs en andere peilers aan dit bekende evenement deelgenomen. Dit jaar vindt de Ballonvossenjacht alweer voor de 43e keer plaats. Het evenement is gepland op zondag 19 september 2021. Als de weergoden ons goed gezind zijn wordt om 13.00 uur de welbekende sonde opgelaten aan een stratosfeerballon die meestal een hoogte van 30+ kilometer bereikt. De sonde blijft normaal gesproken zo’n anderhalf tot twee uur in de lucht waarbij vele actieve peilers tot het uiterste gaan om de dalende sonde als eerste te bereiken. De organisatie zal de ballon dit jaar wederom vanaf een geheime plek in Nederland oplaten. Daardoor is het niet meer mogelijk om op basis van computerberekeningen de landingsplaats vooraf te bepalen, zodat het weer een écht peilevenement gaat worden. De afgelopen jaren blijkt dit te voldoen aan de verwachtingen van de deelnemers, we zien steeds meer equipes bij de landingsplaats verschijnen.
De ballonvossenjacht gaat ieder jaar gepaard met verschillende multimediale activiteiten die ervoor zorgen dat zowel de actieve deelnemers (de jagers) alsook de passieve deelnemers (de volgers thuis) de ballonvossenjacht maximaal kunnen beleven. Zo is het oplaten van de ballon altijd het spannende startschot die live verslagen wordt via de relaisstations PI2NOS en PI3UTR. Daarnaast verwachten we ook dit jaar weer de beelden te zien van de ATV-zender in de sonde maar ook die van het begeleidingscentrum en, niet in de laatste plaats, van de volg-equipe. Zodra de sonde geland en gevonden is kunnen de binnenkomende equipes via deze stream gevolgd worden en de prijsuitreiking ter plaatse live bekijken via internet
Aanpassingen en voorbehoud door Corona
Dit jaar zal de invulling van de Landelijke Ballonvossenjacht, door de maatregelen t.g.v. het Coronavirus, mogelijk nog anders zijn dan voorgaande jaren. Als organisatie hebben we nog geen zicht op de regelgeving die zal gelden op zondag 19 september. We zien echter ook geen reden om de 43e Ballonvossenjacht niet door te laten gaan. Ook vorig jaar is het met aanpassingen en bewerkingen gelukt. Echter moeten we als organisatie wel een voorbehoud maken op de dan geldende wet- en regelgeving. Via onze website ballonvossenjacht.nl houden we de deelnemers op de hoogte. Ook zullen we rekening houden met de landingsplaats en proberen deze binnen Nederland te houden.
Televisiebeelden
Zoals ieder jaar staat de organisatie voor verschillende uitdagingen om het grote scala aan activiteiten in goede banen te leiden. De ballon is te volgen via de (stream van) ATV-repeaters PI6HVS en PI6ATV. Maar natuurlijk kun je de beelden ook zelf proberen te ontvangen. De ballon zendt videobeelden uit op 1252 MHz.
Geheime oplaatplaats
De ballon zal, in navolging van het experiment vorig jaar, wederom vanaf een geheime oplaatplaats de lucht in gaan. Daardoor kunnen slimme ‘peilers’ niet meer op basis van computermodellen berekenen waar de ballon ongeveer zal landen. Het blijft wel de bedoeling van de organisatie om de ballon in Nederland te laten landen.
Ballon moet afslanken
Om de ballon zelfstandig op te laten was het nodig dat de ballon gewicht verloor. Hierdoor is de bakenzender op 145.4500 MHz. komen te vervallen om zo stroom te besparen en gewicht te verliezen. Deelnemers zullen dus moeten peilen op de uitgang van de transponder op 145.4750 MHz. of moeten peilen op de uitgang van de ATV-zender op 1252 MHz.
Veel werk verzet
Zoals u leest is er weer héél wat werk dat verzet moet worden om de Ballonvossenjacht weer een gedenkwaardige dag te laten zijn. Daarom wordt het algehele evenement weer georganiseerd en begeleid door een team van meer dan 30 vrijwilligers. Dankzij hun is het mogelijk om de Ballonvossenjacht plaats te laten vinden en via HF, VHF en UHF-verbindingen. Vorig jaar leidde dit tot bijna 600 unieke registraties met de club callsign van Radio Club ‘t Gooi: PI4RCG.
Meedoen!
Meedoen met de Ballonvossenjacht kan, zoals altijd, op veel verschillende manieren. In eerste instantie kan je natuurlijk meedoen met de peiljacht. We zeggen het nog maar een keertje: hiervoor zijn echt geen gecompliceerde doppler peilers of andere complexe constructies nodig: de beste resultaten worden vaak behaald met een doodgewone ‘peildoos’, een landkaart, uiteraard een goed team en een klein beetje geluk.
Vanaf de zijlijn kan je ook deelnemen aan dit leuke evenement: via internet en de verschillende radiofrequenties kan je de jacht volgen en natuurlijk een QSO maken met de organisatie. De Ballonvossenjacht is er dus voor iedereen. Of je nu fanatiek radiopeiler bent, er een gezinsuitje van maakt of vanuit je luie stoel de reeks van activiteiten volgt en rapporteert.
Wat ook het vermelden waard is: in de afgelopen 8 jaar hebben we mede dankzij de nieuwe organisatiestructuur het evenement tot een nieuwe hoogte weten te brengen met ieder jaar meer deelnemers, meer website bezoekers én meer radioverbindingen. We zetten deze traditie graag voort!

Using the Pluto and RPi4 for Amateur TV and narrowband – Noel G8GTZ.
Following on from his “Advances in Amateur Television” talk at the 2017 RSGB convention, Noel Matthews, G8GTZ will be presenting on the latest developments in the ever-evolving world of Amateur TV.
Noel will give an overview of ATV activity in the UK and in particular how the use of Reduced bandwidth (RBTV) signals has enabled ATV QSOs on the lower VHF bands. He will give an introduction to the QO100 geostationary satellite which has enabled QSOs with fellow DATV operators as far away as Brazil, India and South Africa.
Noel will also be describing how the development of Software Defined Radio (SDR) based hardware and powerful single board computers such as the Raspberry Pi has revolutionised the development and capabilities of amateur radio dedicated products.
He will describe how it is possible for radio amateurs to build an advanced touch screen multimode narrowband and Digital ATV transceiver covering 50 MHz to 10GHz for under £350.

How to get started in software construction and where it can lead you – Heather M0HMO.
All you need to get started in Software construction is a personal computer (Windows, Linux, Mac – they’ll all do), some spare time and, if you want to make a ‘thing’ then some loose change.
There are three easy and virtually free routes into writing your own programs: develop applications that run on your PC using the free Qt environment; write programs to run on one of the Arduino boards (£3 from China plus a USB cable) using the free Arduino application; or go for the middle ground with a Raspberry PI (around £40) and a wi-fi connection.
Heather will take you through the setup for each of these and show you just how easy it is to go from flashing an LED through developing an ATV receiver to producing a fully-featured windows PC application such as her Mapper entry in the RSGB construction competition.

The Russian Woodpecker over the horizon radar, a blast from the past – Keith KI6BDR.
Hidden deep in a serene forest yet taller than the clouds, standing in surreal beauty is an antenna array like none other on earth, having an aperture area greater than 15 U.S. football fields. One of the great wonders of the world – a top secret Soviet radar, so secret that even the name is uncertain, for it had many. It was the Russian Woodpecker. It was the Steel Yard. It was Duga.
The story of this top secret place is one of mystery and intrigue. Now abandoned, a rusting testament to man’s cold war hubris, almost all popular accounts on the web are seriously flawed – victims of deliberate disinformation. Where did it come from? What did it do? Did it transmit? Did it receive? Was it the first of three, or the third of two?
Keith Snyder, KI6BDR, has been busy reverse engineering to uncover truth before time erases history. Keith shows visible engineering clues that reveal the mission and correct the history of the huge “Duga 3” antenna Array. The Duga 3 is located a few kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant site. Although it has fallen into disrepair, it stands today due only to a hasty exit forced by radiation from the
Chernobyl nuclear accident. The nuclear accident ironically protected the array from dismantlement, a reprieve from all but the ravages of time. The antenna array today attracts tourists who visit Chernobyl. It is one of the 8th wonders of the world due to its Titanic size.

The bluffer’s guide to digital voice – Tim GW4VXE.
Tim will provide a quick overview of the most common digital modes (D-STAR, DMR and Fusion) as well as some of the less common modes. Tim will explain how you might use them.
Which mode is the best? Tim will look at code-plugs and hotspots and try and demystify some of the jargon for you.
Technology permitting, he’ll try and do a demo with the chance for a little audience participation. Rather than being a heavy session, the emphasis will be on light but informative content.

Radiokampweek 2022
Zoals al eerder aangekondigd was de kans aanwezig dat we in 2022 niet direct terecht konden in de week van Hemelvaart op onze nieuwe locatie. Helaas is dat nu ook gebleken. Er waren reeds te veel reserveringen geplaatst voordat we überhaupt met de nieuwe locatie in gesprek waren.
Hierdoor zal de radiokampweek éénmalig in een andere week worden georganiseerd. In samenspraak met onze contactpersoon hebben we gezocht naar een week waarin toch een vrije dag zit, en die niet te kort op de zomer, Pinksteren en Pasen zit. We zijn uitgekomen op de week van Koningsdag. Dit zou dus betekenen dat de radiokampweek plaats vind van zaterdag 23 april t/m 1 mei 2022. We willen dan de radiomarkt op zaterdag 30 april organiseren. De nachtjacht zal dan worden verplaatst naar een moment eerder in de week. Houdt hiermee dus rekening tijdens je vakantieplanning.
In 2023 zal de radiokampweek zoals gebruikelijk wel weer gewoon in de week van Hemelvaartsdag worden georganiseerd.
Locatie
De radiomarkt vindt plaats op Recreatiepark de Lucht te Renswoude. Renswoude ligt vlak bij Veenendaal op de grens van de provincie Utrecht en Gelderland. Dit zal voor de bezoeker ongetwijfeld betekenen dat er naast de bekende ook nieuwe verkopers te vinden zullen zijn, én voor de verkopers weer een gedeeltelijk nieuw publiek. Voor de standhouders veranderen de voorwaarden niet:
- Het zal voor standhouders mogelijk zijn om auto/bus/aanhangen achter de kraam te plaatsen.
- Het is voor standhouders die van ver moeten komen mogelijk om te overnachten in hun eigen voertuig. Er is bij de ingang een speciale parkeerplaats ingericht voor het overnachten in een camper. U kunt voor een reservering contact opnemen met Recreatiepark de Lucht. Let op: Wij hebben geen invloed op deze reservering in het geval de radiomarkt niet kan doorgaan als gevolg van Corona maatregelen.
Openingstijden
De radiomarkt is geopend voor verkoop van 8.00 uur ’s morgens tot circa 15.30 uur ’s middags. Voor verkopers is het marktterrein geopend vanaf 7.00 uur tot 7.45 uur voor het opbouwen. De verkopers kunnen op twee manieren hun waar aanbieden. Je kunt een kraam huren of deelnemen aan de kofferbak verkoop.
